Emergency Medical Technician, or EMT, is the essential level of certification for most ambulance responders in Minnesota and throughout the US.
When 911 is called for a medical emergency, EMTs are often responsible for providing lifesaving treatments and monitoring the patient during transport to a hospital. At many ambulance services throughout the state, an EMT is a patient’s main care provider until arriving at a hospital.
In addition to ambulances, many fire departments require EMT certification, and EMTs also work in hospital emergency rooms, cardiac units, dialysis clinics, urgent care clinics, workplace health offices, and many other healthcare settings.
With many positions available around Minnesota, and good pay and benefits, a position as an EMT is a fulfilling and rewarding way to enter the healthcare field!

Our EMT course is about 150 hours over about four months, and consists of a series of online course sessions and in-person class lectures and skill practice sessions. Students are required to complete ambulance ride-alongs, and to pass both hands-on skills tests and written exams. At the completion of class, students are eligible to sit for the National Registry written exam, and obtain full certification as an EMT.
We require students to be 18 or older. Those under 18 are encouraged to take our EMR course in preparation for the EMT Program.
This is a demanding and challenging program, and students must be dedicated to studying and skills practice in order to be successful.
